Flashback, Nevada Barr
Another thriller novel, with a series character overcoming physical trauma to hunt down a murderer. I think it's
more catharsis than cathexis by my (possibly wrong, very probably oversimplified) definition: more pleasure from imagining oneself brave than from licking over the violence that required bravery. I was a little dubious that the adding-up of minor traumas to Anna Pigeon wouldn't have left her incapacitated; but that's what makes her Heroic.
Other good bits: cleverness and courage from minor characters, including some who could have been played just for comic relief; a dramatic setting, another of the National Parks; and a historical mystery, mostly good for adding color to the setting, but a respectable tragedy in itself.
