London War Notes, Mollie Panter-Downes

Every other week, from September 3, 1939 to May 12, 1945, The New Yorker published a report from Panter-Downes in London. Especially in hindsight, these are startlingly balanced, wry, and calm; not just about the raining death and dearth of allies, but about the petty irritations and larger moral questions.
